For those who don't know, he is from the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas special that airs every year.
He is king over the Island of Misfit Toys... toys that have flaws and are not suitable for Christmas gifts... or ARE they? ...wink wink
I suppose his 'flaw' is that he has black wings and flies. Seems pretty
awesome to me!

All of your work is awesome and exceptionally unique! It's actually quite mind-boggling! It's a side of tatting most people have never seen, and I myself had no idea it was even possible. I remember being totally stunned at your carving open the clown with the wind-up mouse inside.
I guess because I was 'grown up' in 1964 (20 yrs old and newly married) I wasn't paying attention to the concept the of Rudolph's association with the 'Misfit Toys'. It took your blog to educate me about that 'universe'.
The lion and your other toys are wonderful! Be prepared for more ribbons!
Thanks so much Kathy! I discovered the 3D tatting technique many years ago, and I love it. To my knowledge, I am the only one who does it. People ask me about patterns, but I just create the items as I go, sort of like sculpting with thread. I am glad I could help you get in touch with your inner child thru Rudolph and his friends.
I believe the next "Misfit" I make will be Hermie... Rudolph's elf friend that wanted to be a dentist!
Honestly, I'd never heard of the misfit toys until you started creating tatted versions. There's nothing wrong with flawed toys. In fact, I think they're much more interesting!
heehee... yep, Diane, I agree. And.... they learn that lesson in the show, too!
